Current Research: My research focuses on cultural scripts (e.g., beliefs, attitudes, norms and narratives) of femininity and masculinity, in four domains.
1. A domain is cultural scripts of gender and suicidality (including suicidal thoughts, nonfatal suicidal behavior, suicide, and physician-assisted suicide), across age, sexual orientation, social class, and ability status.
2. A second domain concerns cultural norms and narratives of women's and men's interest, persistence and success in science and engineering.
3. A third research area is cultural and gender issues in human rights.
4. Finally, I study stereotypes of gender, sexual orientation and aging.

Canetto Gender and Culture Research Team: Dr. Canetto studies cultural norms, beliefs, and narratives of femininity and masculinity in four domains. A domain is cultural scripts of gender and suicidal behaviors--including suicidal thoughts, nonfatal suicidal behavior, suicide, and physician-assisted suicide--across intersectionalities of age, sexual orientation, social class, and disability. A second research stream is cultural norms, stereotypes, and narratives of women's and men's interest, persistence, and success in science and engineering.
